1. Define a Topic:

    Never use a Wiki
    Establish validity and accuracy of information
    Determine what you want to accomplish, what to research
    Cite each source and complete bibliography
 

2. Preliminary Research

    Interview famous people, politicians, and  maybe the president
    Very long and time consumer - must read big, big books
    Background information - start with reference section of library
    Determines what format to write paper in
 

3. Locate Sources

    Find all the Wikis and other student papers you can
    Use "advanced search" features on digital tools - limit results to high-quality, on-topic resources
    Only look online, assume nothing in the library is a good source
    Write your own "preliminary papers" and then use them as your sources
 

4. Evaluate Information

    Accuracy, authority, content, currency, documentation
    Check a blog says or see what's on My Space
    Print is always better than a digital source.
    Digital sources are always better than print
 

5. Document Sources

    Wait until AFTER finishing project, when you are all done.writing
    Keep track of where all your information and sources comes from - do it BEFORE creating project
    Most teachers don't care - don't bother to document anything
    All you need to know are titles - other information can be looked up later
