  • African American Voices Lesson Plans (31 pages).  Sets of lessons for elementary students that celebrate African American Heritage. 
  • Alpha-Phonics Lesson Plans: A Model for Excellence (7 pages).  Here's an outline of 33 weekly lessons (5 days per week) of phonics.
  • Big Black Bear (4 pages).  This lesson uses a book about a black bear with no manners that comes to visit a little girl at home and makes a terrible mess, but another visitor helps him see the error of his ways.
  • Children's Literature Across the Curriculum Ideas (2 pages).  Great ideas for K-5th grade.
  • Cinderella Lesson Plans (5 pages).  The following are given as “jumping off” points for students attending a ballet of Cinderella.
  • Collaborating for Student Success (13 pages).  From Chesterfield County Public Schools, here are some fresh approaches to introducing reference skills, book talk themes, and lessons for K-5 grade students.
  • Collection Development Resources for Elementary Schools (2 pages).  From Maryland State Department of Education.
  • Communities Long Ago (6 pages).  This first grade unit explores U.S. communities in a historical context. By exploring their own community’s buildings and services of both long ago and today, children are introduced to concepts of change, continuity and geography in a local, immediately tangible context. The books for this unit provide thematic structure; lessons begin with picture books that introduce a community history concept.
  • CyberSmart:  Private Identity Information (16 pages).  A virtual field trip helps Kindkergarten and first grade students experience the power and excitement of the Internet by taking them places in cyberspace that might be impractical for a class to visit. They also learn that, just as when traveling in the face-to-face world, they should always take an adult with them when traveling in cyberspace.
  • Dolphins (8 pages).  A three week unit about dolphins for elementary students.
  • Education Web Sites (2 pages).  Collection of online resources, be sure to check out the Lesson Plan section.
  • EEK!  A Spider:  Best Practices of Technology Integration (6 pages).  This is a unit designed for Media Specialists when they see first grade students for 30 minutes per week for 6 weeks (Total time 3 hours) If a classroom teacher were to use the lesson plans, it could be completed within a week. 
  • Elementary Library Lesson Plans.  From Hanover County Public Schools in Ashland, Virginia - these sets of lessons includes handouts
  • Find an Animal! Find a Book! (4 pages).  This elementary lesson plan teaches students to categorize or identify books and other materials into fiction or nonfiction and identify genre of a book by using print concepts.
  • Flight:  100 Years of Aviation (45 pages).  This unit is designed to expose students to the wonder of flight. Students will have the opportunity to explore the history of flight, the impact of Native Americans on flight and the contributions of Oklahomans to the history of flight.
  • Gwendolyn the Library Fairy Lesson Plan (1 page).  Using this popular book, here is a lesson on rhyme for first and second graders.
  • Immigration History (11 pages).  This second grade unit explores immigration to the United States, with an emphasis on the latter half of the 19th century. Because such time concepts typically are not meaningful for children, for the purposes of the unit we often refer to historic times as “long ago”. 
  • Lesson Planning (12 pages).  From Technology Integration Learning Environment, this document presents the "nuts and bolts" of lesson planning with an emphasis on technology.

  • Library Lessons for Kindergarteners (19 pages).  This document outlines 18 units to introduce Kindergarten students to library skills. 
  • Library Media Skills, Scope & Sequence (2 pages)  Here's a brief outline of skills that elementary students can master.
  • MS Word Companion Websites (2 pages).  This document has resources for everything you need to know to use MS Word in the classroom.
  • Multicultural Education Websites (1 page).  Increasingly, America is becoming a more diverse country - here are some resources to integrate multiculturalism into the classroom.
  • Phonological and Phonemic Awareness (7 pages).  Here is a complete seminar on using strategies for teaching phonological and phonemic awareness.  There are also ideas for poetry, chants, finger plays, and rhyming books
  • Practical Strategies for Enhancing Your Classroom Curriculum with the 'Net (5 pages).  Great set of resources to create cross-curriculum lessons featuring information and technology literacy skills.
  • Presidential Election Lesson Plan:  Who Should Be Our Next President? (16 pages).  The Grade 2 Election lessons will focus on introducing the students to the election process and the candidates who are running for President.
  • Presidents' Day Resources (7 pages).  The resources here, presented by general grade level (early elementary, elementary, middle school, high school) can be used when incorporating the study of the American presidency, George Washington, or Abraham Lincoln into your
    social studies instructional sequence.
  • Read Aloud Bookmarks (1 page).  Great bookmark to send home with young children.  It helps parents understand how they can help their children by reading to them.
  • Reading and Language Arts (5 pages).  The challenge of integrating technology into elementary lessons is not the technology, but what we teach and how we teach it.  The key is to not confuse the tool with the result.  These student activities, tools, and resources will help.

  • Webbing Lesson Plan Ideas (16 pages).  Here's an interesting way to look at lesson plans - a graphic organizer that focuses on Process (activities), Context (environment/materials), and the teacher's role.
