The SS Union, launched in October, 1866, was owned and operated by the Norddeutscher Lloyd line. It was in service until 1870. With a registered weight of 2800 tons, and a length and breadth of 330x40 feet, it featured 1 funnel, 2 masts, an iron hull, single screw, and a service speed of 11 knots.  It accommodated 60 first class, 120 second class, and 700 third class passengers.  

The SS Union was a sister ship to Hansa, America, Hermann, Deutschland, and Wesser.  On November 28, 1870, the SS Union was wrecked near Rattray Head, Aberdeenshire, Scotland with no loss of life.
